Helping schools, universities and teacher education make sense of the digital lives of young people
"Every child deserves a human to help them navigate the digital world.
And teachers too!"
My work draws on 25 years in the classroom, doctoral research and European collaboration.

ABOUT

Dr. Annemieke Akkermans is an educational researcher, curriculum designer and teacher educator based in Berlin and The Hague. Her approach is calm, lively and visual rather than alarmist. Children don’t need adults who fear technology. They need adults who can guide them through it.
Leaving kids to their own devices?
Children and young people need to experience trial and error, in the analogue and the digital world. Yet - they need support and guidance before they are left to their own devices - quite literally in this case. For teachers this has also been a trial and error process. They need support and guidance first.

Independent learners ask questions and know which scaffolding and resources support their learning process. They explore digital tools and media in a safe space and learn to judge when and how to use them. This is especially relevant when it comes to learning how to manage AI, rather than letting AI manage them.
This is student agency.
